Why is World Meteorological Day important? Because climate change affects so many parts of our world nowadays, the need to detect and monitor fluctuations in temperature, the rising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or other hazards and natural disasters has become of extreme importance.
World Meteorological Day was established in 1961 to celebrate the World Meteorological Organization creation on 23 March 1950. The theme for this year is Early Warning and Early Action, which emphasizes the vital need of Hydrometeorological and Climate Information for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The pandemic has increased the challenges our society faces in pursuing global goals on climate action and greater coordination between national meteorological services, authorities and development agencies is needed to prevent and respond to climate challenges.
The IceSafari team takes this opportunity to remind scientists in atmospheric sciences that taking the appropriate action at the right time can go a long way toward preventing greater issues!
