The PhD students involved in the IceSafari project have made progress in their research and submitted abstracts to The General Assembly 2022 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), which will take place between 23-27 May 2022. The Conference aims to provide a forum where scientists are able to present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

The IceSafari team submitted 4 abstracts to EGU2022 and these include:

  • “Air pollution over Romania: a comparative study 2019 – 2020 using ground-based measurements”Robert Valentin Chirițescu, Bianca Mihalache, Adriana Dumitru, and Gabriela Iorga. The aim of the study was to comparatively assess the air pollution levels in 15 urban area spread out over Romania in 2019 and 2020, as the first pandemic year of COVID-19.

  • “Cloud Classification and Characteristics Analysis of Stratocumulus Clouds over Bucharest-Magurele, Romania”Genica Liliana Saftoiu Golea, Sabina Stefan, Bogdan Antonescu, Gabriela Iorga, and Tiberiu Hriscan. The aim of the study is to understand the cloud occurrence and characteristics of stratocumulus clouds using satellite data collected from Dec 2019 to Feb 2021.

  • “Study of atmospheric pollen and major air pollutant concentrations in relation with meteorological conditions in Bucharest, Romania”Rosianu Ana-Maria, Leru Poliana, Iorga Gabriela, and Marmureanu Luminita. The objective of present work is to analyze the potential links through correlations or anti-correlations between variations of pollen concentrations and the major atmospheric pollutant concentrations PM10, PM2.5, NOx, CO, VOCs, O3, SO2 and/or meteorological conditions.

  • “Variations in PM10 particle matter levels in three urban areas in Romania-comparative study 2020-2019”George-Bogdan Burghelea, Sabina Stefan, Luminita Marmureanu, and Gabriela Iorga. The study shows that in 2020 the pollution levels in the Bucharest metropolitan area were considerably lower for the whole year than in 2019, and during the state of emergency (Lockdown) and the state of alert the pollution levels with PM10 were the lowest in the year.
